Roulette: Huge Wins on a Little Wheel

The history of Roulette goes back more than 200 years, and its name ever so aptly means Little Wheel. In the 17th century mathematician Blaise Pascal created a prototype as he searched for a “perpetual motion machine” and the game was adopted as a form of gambling in the 1900s.

As the Little Wheel games spread, an adaptation known as European Roulette developed from the original French version. Then, when colonisers made the move to the new world and brought their customs and pastimes with them, American Roulette was born.

These days the game is what almost everyone thinks of when they picture casinos, and the best place to enjoy all 3 versions online in New Zealand is Euro Palace. Our superb games are matched by service, bonuses and payouts that are just as good. It may be named after a Little Wheel, but at Euro Palace there’s nothing small about the payouts!

The Fundamentals of Roulette

The Little Wheel in the game’s name is wheel divided into 36 segments, each with a number from 1 to 36, and alternately coloured in red and black. There is also a green panel numbered 0, and the American variation added an extra green segment numbered 00 to steepen the house edge from 2.70% to 5.26%.

The wheel is spun, a ball is dropped on it, and before the turning stops you need to bet on where the ball will come to rest. You do this by placing your chips on the appropriate area of the Roulette table, which has 2 betting tracks. Wagers are thus known as Inside or Outside Bets, depending on where they are found.

Placing Bets on the Little Wheel

Each type of Roulette, American, French and European, has its own rules and its own slightly different bets. The Outside Bets are all the same, and are much more general. Good examples of these are Red/Black and Odd/Even Bets, where you are simply putting money on whether the ball will land in a red or black, or odd or even panel.

Strategy in Roulette all comes down to understanding the game’s odds and betting accordingly. This takes an enjoyable lifetime of playing to perfect, so we suggest starting small with Outside Bets in the European or French variations, with their lower house edges than the American game.
